Teeth update

Not a fun blog post, or update today. Got my updated estimate for the implants to be surgically installed after the raging infection happened stemming from really bad root canals done in the past. I decided to do single implants for each tooth I am missing for several reasons. The main reason being that it is much easier to take care of them vs partial bridges, secondly, they will feel more natural. All in all, I am really glad that I found the oral surgeon who helped me out this past year. He has been pretty instrumental to helping me get to the bottom of my health problems, and he listens, treats me like a person, not just “another number”.

The approach to getting my mouth back in order will take 5 phases, 1 of which I have already completed which took place last year, and this year:

  • October 2018 – Extraction of #19-21
  • February 2019 – Extraction of #22
  • March 2019 – Extraction of #12-14, #24
Total cost of Phase 1 was around $5,000.
In order to ensure the integration of the bone grafts placed, you need to wait at least 3-4 months before proceeding to phase 2 and beyond.  From the last appointment I had with my oral surgeon, I had a CBCT which took a look at the bone grafts, and from what he told me, the bone grafts are healing nicely, and I should be ready for implants soon.  The next step which will be happening in June, will be:

  • Re-Evaluation of bone for implant #’s 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24
  • Another CBCT Scan
  • Intra-Oral Scan
  • Fabrication of a CBCT-derived surgical guide for implant placement
Total cost of Phase 2 is $1,810.
After phase 2 is completed, I will need to wait about 4 weeks for the surgical guide to be made.  This piece is critical to the success of placing the implants correctly.  Think of it as a map of my mouth and where the implants need to land.  This will put me around early July for phase 3.
Phase 3 includes:

  • Placement of titanium dental implant #’s 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24
  • Left Maxillary direct sinus lift
  • Placement of platelet rich plasma
  • IV Sedation (90 Minutes)
  • Post-Op Panorex X-Ray
Total cost of Phase 3 is $21,500.
After phase 3 has been completed.  I once again need to wait 3-4 months.  During this time, the bone and the implants need to bond, heal, and become one.  Now implants are not guaranteed.  Having CVID complicates this.  However, being on the IVIg, this will help ensure that integration is successful.  Phase 4 is simply checking that integration was successful with visual inspection, as well as another Panorex X-Ray.
Total cost of Phase 4 is $110.
Phase 5 is the finish line.  If everything falls into place, I can then have the restorations created which mount onto the implants.  I received the estimate for the 8 restorations required, and the grand total for those is $12,920.00.
So in total, complete oral restoration will cost me roughly $35,000 out-of-pocket.  And all of this mostly needs to be pre-paid PRIOR to the surgery date.
