Apartment Hunting

So this afternoon I started looking at different apartments. I think it’s the best case scenario of getting out of here, before things become much worse. I found 3 apartments that look like good possibilities, so hopefully we can look at them, make a decision.

Then the hard part begins. Getting out of here will be a priority, but at the same time, we will definitely need to hire movers since I won’t be able to do much. Last time when we moved from building 1 to where we are now, it cost $3000. Reason it was so expensive is our current apartment is on the 3rd floor. So they had to struggle up 3 flights of stairs.

This time, they will only be going down. So hopefully it won’t be that much, but that’s the worst case scenario.

The cats are starting to sneeze again. I’m feeling like absolute shit. Anies told me tonight that she’s having problems breathing since we got back. So as I look at it, if the shoe fits…. the “mold remediation” was done improperly. When I spoke to Envirospec yesterday, I flat out asked him when they work with a mold remediation company, what type of PPE would be expected when working in a hazardous mold environment. He was pretty quick to say that typically full body suits that cover everything head to toe, and a full face respirator is used. He also said that the area should be draped and sealed PRIOR to any work. He went on to say that if these precautions, and protocols are not followed, this leads to a high chance that the mold will be spread to other places.

When I watched in shock when I was in the ICU, I watched 4 people come into the apartment, with no PPE, not even an N95 mask. The bigger guy started immediately tearing the siding off. No draping. No protection. Later that day, my downstairs neighbor texted me back as I warned him that the falling debris is mold and to not touch it. One of the worst half assed jobs I’ve ever seen. I was hoping that that the property would have done the best they could, but basically sent general contractors that had absolutely no experience with mold remediation.

This will be useful in my arguments in the lawsuit. What they did to remediate wasn’t right. It’s 100% on them for not addressing the siding when we moved in, or when I called & left a message for their office staff over the summer about the contractors just painting over the rotting siding. I even told the property manager about my concerns about the people not wearing any PPE, she didn’t say anything. It’s because they know I know.

Hopefully we can find a place that is safe. People don’t consider mold when they move into places. I’m now well aware of the dangers, and effects of what it can do.

As I write this, my skin is starting to crawl. My head is super itchy. All the signs are there.

I just hope we can find a place by the end of the year. Hopefully the attorney I talk to Monday can get us out of here, we have a slam dunk reason why we need out. The other portions will just be a work in progress, but we need to immediately fix the lease problem here. But then turn around, and go after them for the relocation costs, and what was billed out for the medical care for the past 3 years.

What they did was fucking irresponsible. Repulsive. Ignorant. Downright lazy. But again, we live in capitalist America, where money is all that matters. Hopefully I can teach them a lesson, so in the future, they don’t make the same mistake, but from what they did, how they handled all this, it won’t matter.
