Mastoidectomy Post Op

Appointment with Dr. Lupo happened today. He removed the steristrips and says it’s healing nicely. There is however a lot of fluid still trapped in my mastoid where he worked, and that will take about 7-8 weeks to dissipate.

He told me that the surgery was absolutely necessary. When he accessed the mastoid, he immediately saw evidence of a recurring infection that my immune system couldn’t fight. He also saw that the mastoid had a defect where between the mastoid and the middle ear cavity, that there was an opening by having no bone that separated the cavities. This would explain my childhood/adult illnesses with recurring infections.

He removed all of the contents of the mastoid and cavity, and also revised and fixed the issue with the birth the defect by creating new pathways to help with keeping the space open, but at the same time preventing infection any further.

He believes the surgery was 100% successful, based on my healing, I might need revision surgery down the road, however he was quite pleased that it went so well.

As for my face? Yeah it still hurts :(. I’m still

Getting the sores and pustules on my face, specifically in my lip and cheek. Those seem to be the ones that hurt/burn the most. I keep waking up with puss on my lip. And it’s just not 1 little spot. It’s across everywhere.
