ESWL Success

Just wanted to drop a small update. The ESWL procedure went ok today. They were running way behind today, I sat in pre-op from 11:30am till about 3pm. Procedure went quick.

Prior to the surgery, when the anasthesiologist came in, I asked him for the usual double dose of versed, and then brought up ketamine. He was extremely against it at first, citing that he doesn’t use it. But then I started to explain it’s success with controlling post surgical pain after the Mastoidectomy, as well as the past 3 weeks of it’s use at Klarisana. He then started to consider it, but said, “we probably don’t have it here”. The surgical nurse standing next to him quickly replied, we definitely do have it and use it.

So he pushed the ketamine in as the procedure was finished. I woke up with minimal pain. I asked for fentanyl anyways since I know the car ride home would be rough.

But all in all, I’m just sore where the left kidney sits. I’m just super grateful that I didn’t have a stent as a parting gift. Even the doctor said he would never put one in after ESWL. Unlike last time where it was supposed to be ESWL, but I woke up to “we had to do lithotripsy instead”.

We got home around 5 and I’ve just been resting since. I’m just glad it’s all over with. I’ll follow up with them in a month for a post surgical X-ray to see how successful the ESWL was.
